I own/represent Transworld Business Advisors in the South East and Central South Carolina. My family and I call Hilton Head Island our home and we are very much involved in the community. Our business goal is to be community-minded and offer best in class service to our clients. These services include valuation and accurate pricing of a business, an extensive amount of advertising, personal contact with each buyer, referring financing partners and options if the buyer needs it, and managing and staying engaged from the listing of the business to closing the sale. All of this is done with complete confidentiality for our listing clients not to lose employees or customers.

Transworld is the largest Business Brokerage Company worldwide. They have offices throughout the United States as well as offices in South America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. We co-broker our listings to be exposed to all our agents as well as other brokerage companies. We are the only brokerage company that does this because we want our listings to get the most exposure to the maximum number of buyers. This system is very fruitful in the Lowcountry of South Carolina because many buyers want to move here from other parts of the country as well as overseas.

Following is a quick overview of my background:

I graduated College with honors, with Degrees in Business and Mathematics.
My first job was with Westinghouse Broadcasting and Cable.
I worked in the Telecommunication field for over 20 years, starting with a position in sales and leaving as a Vice President.

During my tenure at Verizon, I spent four years in mergers and acquisitions.
I have bought five businesses of my own, two of which have been franchises and have sold four. I am very familiar with every aspect of a sale from all three sides: seller, buyer, and a broker.
Of the businesses I have owned, their formation included C-Corporation, S- Corporation, and LLC.

Erich K. Schmid

President, Business Intermediary

Mr. Schmid and the late William J. Fass founded Business Intermediary Services, Ltd. in 1994 to focus solely on lower, middle – market transactions in the in the U.S., Canada and U.S. – Brazil cross-border transactions.

Mr. Schmid is a 35-year veteran in the mergers and acquisitions arena. In 1974 Mr. Schmid’s corporate M&A career began with The Babcock & Wilcox Co. (NYSE: BW) in its Corporate Planning and Business Development Department; and following the acquisition of B&W by J.Ray McDermott (NYSE: MDR) in 1978, he joined McDermott’s corporate development staff. In 1980 Mr. Schmid was selected by Tidewater Inc. (NYSE: TDW) to be its first Director of Corporate Development and served in that position until 1985 when he resigned and moved to Asheville, North Carolina where he joined a local business brokerage firm where he specialized in larger transactions. During his nine years in general business brokerage he performed valuations of several hundred businesses for buyers and sellers and was involved in over 100 transactions. Since 1974 he was directly involved in over 60 lower, middle – market transactions.

Mr. Schmid has both a B.S. – Industrial Management and M.S. – Management from The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. Mr. Schmid also studied Strategic Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Business. While he was a member of the International Business Brokers Association he was named a Fellow of the IBBA and was instrumental in founding the Carolinas – Virginia Business Brokers Association and served as its first president. Mr. Schmid is currently member of Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors and is a Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA). He is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth’s Charlotte Chapter and is a life member of The Institute of Business Appraisers and holds charter membership in its Southeastern Chapter.
